"Member Choice" at :iconmanipulatethis:

My participation to the "Creative Inspiration Contest" hosted by :iconkuschelirmel:

Inspired by the beautiful picture of :iconmbhenriksen: I Set Fire to the Rain by MBHenriksen I love how he did a beautiful light effect on the rain, in a lightened town, and tried to do something similar.

Stock used:

Upon first glance, it drives you in. Looking at it from a distance, an emotional vibe exudes from it. Feelings of sadness, loneliness even vengeance are felt quite strongly.

The choice of colours compliments not only the model, background but the curiosity of your audience yet I wonder why on earth this is on "dark" as it does not feel dark, remote yes but overall it is more of an emotional piece rather than a dark piece though if one were to appreciate this more intimately, you do see it eventually.

The downsides to this rather wonderful piece is that not only is your model slightly, just slightly over-sized but positioned just a little bit too high. Lower it just a tad by about maybe 50-90px. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>

The sheer idea of the rain is fantastic, not only does it bring appeal to the situation but helps us appreciate it.

My issue with the rain is, not so much the rain itself but the drops. Good grief! It's too strong, even if you were going for that effect... that photography effect. You know, taking shots with rain drops on your lens, your drops are way too strong and does not look natural.

Almost every drop that I see is really too strong expect for three. The one near the nose and mouth (sprinkling one) and the one just south of it. And, north of the black flower before the dropping drop <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="17" alt=":O_o:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="139" title="O_o"/>.

Anyway, as I do not want to discourage you. Let me just say this, in your next piece, if you are working with raindrops, go for subtlety. Do not sharpen every single, little, drop.

Note: there are also mistakes on the rain, minor yes but they are, shall we say, ambulance chasers. And, also, on your bokeh, rain, splatter, drops, thing effect.

Overall your piece is wonderful. Effects, colours are chosen quite nicely but unfortunately when you look at it closely. Well, <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>.
